Is there a dentist open on Sunday in North Brisbane?
Yes. Barrett Street Dental in Bracken Ridge is open Sundays 8am to 1pm for routine and emergency appointments.
If your regular dentist is closed at the weekend, a toothache or broken tooth on Saturday night has nowhere to go until Monday. Our Sunday session exists for that gap, and for people who cannot get to a dentist in working hours. You do not need to be an existing patient. If it is urgent, our emergency dentist page covers what to do before you arrive.
What can be treated on a Sunday
Sunday is a full clinical session, not an emergency-only service.
- Assessment and X-ray where needed
- Filling, medication for infection, or first stage of root canal
- Rest of the treatment booked for follow-up
- Chipped edge smoothed or rebuilt in composite
- Larger break stabilised on the day
- Crown planned if required
- Replaced or re-cemented where the tooth allows
- Bring the crown with you if you have it
- Drained and treated where appropriate
- Swelling affecting breathing or swallowing: hospital emergency department first
- Examination, scale and clean, X-rays due
- A practical slot for people who work Monday to Friday
- Check-ups, cleans and fillings for all ages
- CDBS bulk billing for eligible children
Saturday night: can it wait until Sunday morning?
A general guide only. If you are unsure, call and reception will tell you.
| What has happened | How urgent | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Knocked-out adult tooth | Call now | Keep it in milk and come straight in when we open; the sooner it is reinserted the better |
| Swelling spreading to the eye or neck, or affecting breathing or swallowing | Call now | Hospital emergency department tonight, then dentist for the tooth |
| Severe toothache keeping you awake | Sunday morning | Over-the-counter pain medication as directed; book the first Sunday slot |
| Broken tooth with a sharp edge or exposed nerve | Sunday morning | Cover the edge with sugar-free gum or wax; avoid that side; book Sunday |
| Lost filling or crown, no pain | Book this week | Keep the crown, avoid chewing on it, book Sunday or a weekday |
| Chipped tooth, no pain | Book this week | Not urgent; book the next convenient appointment |
Does not replace assessment by a dentist.
How a Sunday appointment works
The same as a weekday visit, with one difference: the morning is short, so booked patients are seen first.
No weekend surcharge
A Sunday check-up, filling or emergency visit is charged at the same fee as the identical treatment on a Tuesday.
Barrett Street Dental accepts all health funds and is a preferred provider for Bupa Members First Platinum, Medibank Members’ Choice, HCF, CBHS and nib. Claims go through HICAPS on the spot on a Sunday. What your fund pays depends on your cover; you get an itemised quote first.
Eligible children can be bulk billed under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule — see children’s dentistry. Smile Now Pay Later plans with Zip are available for eligible patients (terms and eligibility apply).
Dental emergencies on a Sunday
Call 07 3269 2300 first. Reception will tell you whether to come straight in and what to do in the meantime.
Knocked-out adult tooth: hold it by the crown, rinse briefly in milk or saline if dirty, put it back in the socket or keep it in milk, and come in immediately.
Toothache or swelling: over-the-counter pain medication as directed, cold compress outside the face, no heat. Swelling that affects breathing or swallowing is a hospital matter first.
Broken tooth or lost crown: keep the piece, avoid chewing on that side, cover a sharp edge with sugar-free gum or orthodontic wax. More on our emergency dentist page.
